Remember the famous quote that promises “a winner never quits, and a quitter never wins?”
The reason that quote by legendary NFL Coach Vince Lombardi is so popular is because there is a psychology of winning that anyone can achieve if they are willing to work hard enough. A winning attitude can assure success in your career, finances, personal relationships, and a host of other areas if you’re willing to set your mind on winning.
A psychology of winning begins with hard work. Thomas Edison once said that “genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.” Edison’s words were true in his time and are true even today because no one ever got ahead in life by sitting on their laurels.
If you want to make your dreams come true, then do it!
Analyzing situations and seeking the best plan of action to reach your goals are also important. Three areas that are examples of where an individual can employ a psychology of winning are:
* Career. Someone who wants to win in their chosen profession has to ask tough questions that include:
Am I achieving all I can in my field? If the answer is no, you should seek a higher paying position, or perhaps you need more education or training to take you to the next level.
What roadblocks are keeping you from excelling in their career? It may be co-workers, a management style that they cannot adhere to. But you also need to ask the hard question of whether you are the problem. In both scenarios doing something is paramount. If co-workers are the problem you should speak with management. If management is the problem, then find another job. If you’re the problem in your career, do whatever it takes to get back on track.
A psychology of winning involves recognizing problems and tackling them, not whining about your misfortunes in life.
* Finances. Want to know how to have the house of your dreams or spend your summers on a tropical island? The answer is simple – start examining your finances.
Okay, so maybe everyone can’t be the next Bill Gates but there are still things you can do to increase the amount of money you have leftover at the end of every month.
Start by analyzing your spending habits. Are you spending money on frivolous things? Do you seek out the best bargains on items? There are literally dozens of things you can do that will result in more disposable income.
Making sure that money is there for large expenditures or, better yet for someone with a psychology of winning, for investments. It begins with a thoughtful review of your finances and then acting on it!
* Personal life. Your attitude, the way you treat other people, and how you handle rejection can all have an impact on your personal life. Whether it involves dealing with family members, friends, or associates, ultimately you are the one who decides whether you will win in your relationships with others.
Surround yourself with people who have the same beliefs and convictions. In doing so, you will not only create a support group but will constantly be around others who have a psychology of winning.
Winning means perseverance and NEVER quitting. It also includes believing in yourself, for by doing so you have internalized a psychology of winning that will take you far regardless of the roadblocks you encounter.
